October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. With an aunt and a number of friends diagnosed with breast cancer, this is a cause that’s close to our heart.
Last year we were privileged to collaborate in a styled shoot for our gorgeous friend, Lindi. Lindi was diagnosed with breast cancer at aged 29. At the time she had a 10 month old baby at home and no family history of breast cancer. Needless to say her life changed in an instant.
It would be understandable to fall into a state of depression with this kind of news. But Lindi took cancer head on and #fightlikeagirl was born.
Lindi underwent 16 sessions of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy and a further 6 weeks of radiation. The treatment was successful and Lindi has been cancer free for just over one year.
Statistics say that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.. And only 15% of breast cancers are related to family history. Breast Cancer Awareness month serves as a timely reminder to undertaken regular checks, trust your gut and to see your doctor early.
We’ll leave you with these gorgeous inspiring pics of Lindi taken just before her mastectomy.
